MILE Co-Directors Testify to House Appropriations Committee

On March 10th, 2026, MILE Co-Directors Simone Gibson and DJ Bolger, alongside Delegate Stephanie Smith, testified before Maryland's House Appropriations Committee to establish MILE as the state-funded research and technical assistance center to promote literacy.

They testified for the purpose of establishing the Maryland Institute for Literacy and Equity organized as a partnership between the University of Maryland, College Park Campus and Morgan State University to serve as a State–funded research and technical assistance center to promote literacy in the State; requiring the Governor to include in the annual budget bill certain appropriations to the University of Maryland, College Park Campus, Morgan State University, and the Institute; and generally relating to the Maryland Institute for Literacy and Equity.
