DLEC 2025

On May 31st, 2025, the MILE hosted the second annual Dual Language Educator Conference (DLEC) at the University of Maryland. Over 100 dual language educators, school leaders, and district staff gathered to connect, collaborate, and deepen their understanding of DLBE..

Centered around the theme “Together We Grow: Connecting and Collaborating in Dual Language Bilingual Education,” the conference featured a keynote presentation by Dr. Katherine Barko-Alva, engaging bilingual sessions led by experienced DLBE practitioners, and opportunities for meaningful discussion and networking.

Throughout the day, participants explored topics such as leadership, literacy and biliteracy, novice teacher support, family engagement, program development, and content language integration, strengthening the collective work toward DLBE excellence and equity.

DLEC 2024

On June 1st, 2024, MILE welcomed nearly 100 educators and leaders in Dual Language Bilingual Education (DLBE) to raise awareness, strengthen partnerships, and share understanding and resources for DLBE excellence and equity.

At the inaugural conference, attendees heard from our keynote speaker, Mayra Canizales Cruz, attended bilingual sessions led by experienced DLBE educators, and participated in collaborative conversations centered around this year's theme, “Cultivating Bilingualism, Biliteracy, Academic Excellence, & Critical Multicultural Understanding in Our Schools.”
