In this talk, Drs. DJ Bolger and Courtney Overton will discuss the new definition of Dyslexia released in October from the International Dyslexia Association and how the changes reflect 20 years of new research and thinking. Dr. Bolger will discuss the cognitive and neurobiological research of reading difficulties and how they shape our thinking about a "constellation approach" from a scientific perspective. Dr. Overton will discuss how diagnosis takes shape under this approach and what factors we should pay attention to. They will conclude with a discussion of how foundational principles of explicit, systematic intervention approaches require customization tweaking according to individual student profiles.
This talk includes insights beneficial to educators, parents, families, caregivers, stakeholders, policymakers, and advocates.
