In a recent Baltimore Sun article, titled “In marathon to improve Maryland students’ literacy, Carey Wright begins the next mile,” MILE Co-Director DJ Bolger shared insights on Maryland’s literacy rates.
“The state has made progress with students in the bottom percentiles to the top, but the struggle is maintaining those gains, said Donald “DJ” Bolger, director of the Maryland Initiative for Literacy and Equity. When strong policies are implemented, they can help with early intervention to prevent children from falling through the cracks. The literacy policies are meant to create safety nets to catch students before they fail and keep them on the path to success, Bolger said. ”
